Firefox and some must have add-ons

Posted by comartslibrarian on November 20, 2006

I’ve recently published an article in our library’s newsletter (Oct. 2006) and held an instruction class about the merits of Firefox, a powerful alternative to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.

For those who haven’t tried Firefox yet, it’s really worth a look, and it’s free at! Internet Explorer 7.0 is rolling out now (but only to Windows XP/Vista users), but by most reviews, is still playing catch-up to Firefox.

Here’s a PDF link to the handout I used in my instruction class: Firefox features and add-ons. Please comment if you have other add-ons to recommend!

A few add-ons that didn’t make my ‘must-have’ list, but still qualify as fabulous extras:
    1) ForecastFox Enhanced – A powerful weather tool that discreetly lives in the “status” bar of Firefox.
    2) Firefox Showcase – Easily locate any tab you’ve opened by viewing their thumbnail images.
    3) Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) – Backup, export/import all of your extensions, preferences, saved passwords and more using this handy tool.
