CIL2007 Opening Keynote Address

Posted by comartslibrarian on April 16, 2007

Over 2,000 folks attending CIL 2007 this year — it’s quite crowded! Hope next year’s is back at Dupont Circle Hyatt…

Lee Rainie, Director of the Pew Internet & American Life Project delivered the opening keynote address this morning. He noted that the number of Internet users virtually equals the number of computer users. Other interesting stats:

  • 142 million Internet users in the U.S. — 96 million are broadband users
  • 20 percent of online adults have profiles on a social network (i.e. MySpace); 55% of online teens have such a profile.
