Transformers movie: More than meets the eye

The new movie Transformers has set a 7-day box office record, according to this report, which includes this quote:

“Word has gotten out to the parents that it’s OK to take the kids,” a Paramount exec told me Friday.

Pshaw… Maybe if your kids are 16 or older (and still want to be seen in a movie theater with their parents). For this Gen-Xer and former Transformers collector, it was an entertaining flick overall. Michael Bay did better with the Transformers characters and story than I expected, but the movie was soured by some adult language and gestures. Examples: Grandma giving Bernie Mac the middle finger, a”comedic” bit referencing masturbation, and the usual obscene language. It’s every bit a PG-13 movie and the “13” is pushing the envelope. Too bad Hollywood feels the need to foul up movies with these gratuities.
